On December 8, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the California Transportation Commission has awarded $101.2 million to various projects across the state aimed at improving walking and biking infrastructure. Since taking office, the Newsom Administration has allocated a total of $2.7 billion to support such initiatives.

Inglewood, along with Salinas and Madera, is set to benefit from this funding. The city has received a grant for the Westchester/Veterans Station Multimodal Connection Project.

This exciting project is focused on transforming the Westchester/Veterans station into a key transit hub along the Metro K Line. Once completed, it will connect riders to LAX through the new “Aviation/Century” station. The project aims to provide easy transfers between multiple bus lines and the light rail system, establishing a vital connection for transportation in the Westchester area.

With the anticipated opening of the new LAX/Metro Transit Center, several bus lines—including Lines 102, 111, 117, 120, and 232—will be modified to terminate at this location. This change is designed to enhance bus connectivity and improve passenger facilities. The new transit center will replace the LAX City Bus Center and the Aviation/LAX Station, although those stations will continue to serve passengers until the LAX/Metro Transit Center is operational. In addition, municipal bus services, such as Beach Cities Transit, Big Blue Bus, Culver Citybus, GTrans, and Torrance Transit, will also be relocated to this new terminus, along with the LAX Metro Transit Center shuttles.

This funding marks a significant step towards creating safer and more accessible routes for walking and biking in Inglewood, enhancing connectivity and mobility for all residents.
