Inglewood First United Methodist Church is planning a 60-unit affordable housing development on its campus, replacing old, unused classroom buildings behind the church’s chapel.

The project will include studio apartments, with half reserved for unhoused seniors and the other half for local workers, including employees from nearby SoFi Stadium.

On Jan. 15, the Inglewood City Council unanimously approved the project and a $9 million city loan to help cover construction costs. The funding includes $4 million from a federal housing grant, with the remaining amount coming from city funds.

In addition to housing, the development will include a community center offering mental health services, classes, and weekly food distribution. Construction is expected to begin Feb. 7, 2026, and take about two years.
