In a significant victory for the City of Inglewood, Hill Farrer & Burrill LLP successfully negotiated a $6.23 million settlement on behalf of the property owners, finalizing the acquisition of the last two properties required for the construction of the Intuit Dome basketball arena.
With just days before a scheduled jury trial, attorneys Dean E. Dennis and Kevin H. Brogan, representing Hill Farrer, reached an agreement that resolved the eminent domain action brought against their clients in 2021. The City had initially valued the properties at $2,915,000.
Dennis, the managing attorney of Hill Farrer, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "Had it not been for our clients' steadfast defense of their property rights, the City would not have recognized the true value of the land. This settlement ensures fair and just compensation."
The City consistently argued throughout the case that the acquisitions were necessary for the Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center (IBEC) Project, a crucial endeavor for the city's progress and development. However, the property owners contended that the use of eminent domain for a private project was unconstitutional.
Located south of the SoFi Stadium, the Intuit Dome will become the new home court for the Los Angeles Clippers, replacing their former venue at the Crypto.com arena.
Brogan, a partner at Hill Farrer, praised the resilience of their clients and expressed pride in their representation, stating, "We commend our clients for their unwavering determination throughout this process and are honored to have achieved this favorable outcome on their behalf."
