Twenty-one-year-old Lanai Dees from Inglewood was fatally shot in the Westmont area of South Los Angeles. Her body was discovered in the driver's seat of a vehicle.

The incident took place around 12:40 a.m. on Sunday in the 2000 block of West Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived, they found officers from the Los Angeles Police Department already on the scene, attending to a traffic accident near the city limits. Dees was located inside a car that had collided with a concrete foundation in an alley south of Century Boulevard and South Gramercy Place.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed her identity on Monday, stating that she was pronounced dead at the scene.
