The Inglewood Unified School District bars federal agents from accessing campuses or student records unless they present a valid judicial warrant, not merely an ICE administrative warrant.

The change, which the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration notes aligns with California Attorney General guidance following AB 49 and SB 98, also requires staff to notify administration immediately if agents arrive.

Key points:

Warrant requirement: Only judicial warrants, subpoenas, or court orders permit access to nonpublic areas or student records; ICE administrative warrants are not sufficient.

Safety protocols: Schools must promptly contact parents or guardians if agents are interacting with students.

Data protection: District staff may not disclose student or family information to immigration officers without proper legal documentation.

Compliance deadline: California districts were required to adopt these updates by March 1, 2026, to better protect immigrant students.
