An Inglewood man has been arrested for allegedly fatally shooting another man in Santa Monica following a brief altercation involving a woman. According to police, the suspect, Fabian Mendez, flagged the victim down before the shooting, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. on January 15 in the 200 block of Broadway, near Second Street.
Investigators revealed that the incident began when an unidentified woman argued with a homeless man. Shortly after, Mendez allegedly chased the man into the street and shot him in the back.
“The suspect was last seen running northbound in Alley 2 and then disappeared from view,” stated a representative from the Santa Monica Police Department.
After weeks of investigation, Mendez was arrested on Tuesday and charged with homicide, with bail set at $3 million.
